It makes you think of Halloween and being a kid, and the fun (and potential cavities) of eating candy all month long. I was the same way with deviled eggs (not wanting to try them simply because they didn't look or sound appealing) and boy do I regret how many years I missed out on those delicious Southern charms. But don't make the same mistake I made with candy corn, missing out on its goodness for far too long. Ewhat about the white and the yellow?! What sort of unwelcome flavor surprise am I gonna get there? You swear it's not corn-flavored? If these questions haunt your mind every time you hear or see candy corn, you are definitely not alone. I will admit for years I didn’t even want to try candy corn simply because it looked and sounded gross to me. I think it’s both the appearance and the name that throw people, honestly.

It's one of those candies that's perfect to shovel by the handful. The flavor is tasty (sort of sweet but also sort of buttery, but not buttery enough to be full-on savory) and candy corn straight-up melts in your mouth. There's no time like October to embrace that label. If that makes me a monster then so be it.

I love candy corn, and I’m not gonna apologize for it. This time of year makes me think of a lot of things- going to the state fair as a child (it always came to Mobile, Alabama in October), costume parties, cute pumpkins on porches, and perhaps most predominantly, why do people hate on candy corn so much?!
